Resource details
This activity is designed for learners to paint directly onto the page. Each sheet features two butterflies, coloured in a rainbow order from 1 to 10. The left wing of each butterfly has pale dots representing one part of a double.
Learners dab paint onto each pale spot, then fold the butterfly in half along the dashed line to reveal the double. They then count the total number of spots and complete the sentence below the butterfly (e.g., “Double 1 is 2.”).
There are spaces on the sheet for learners to write their name and the date. Dashed lines also indicate where to cut if you wish to separate the pairs of butterflies.
The last sheet includes x2 blank butterflies with a pale grey outline and blank sums should any butterflies need painting again/get lost or if you wish to extend this activity to include higher numbers.
