What’s it for?
This resource has been designed to practise reading and writing x8 simple sentences to identify and make corrections to each one. Every sentence has x3 errors to correct. Two answer pages are included in the same format, making every error made clear. Answers could be used by learners to cross-check their sentences, promoting autonomy.
Who’s it for?
This resource is aimed at learners who are learning/are familiar with phonics up to Phase 5. This resource is ideal for years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support.

Pages 1 and 2 both include x4 sentences, each in a separate box and illustrated with a simple image on the right. Both pages include the same instructions at the top - making it clear to learners that there are x3 errors in each sentence and what these errors may be.
For your reference, a list is included that identifies the high-frequency words, phonics sounds, and non-phonetic words used used in this resource.
Types of error include:
- spellings
- capital letters
- finger spaces
- full stops
- use of a 'wrong' word

Picture Clues
The pictures provide clues to help read unfamiliar words e.g. lions, lambs, chicken, encouraging learners to use a range of reading skills when decoding these sentences if they are not at a level to read them on-sight.
