This activity is designed to help young learners solidify their recognition of the all Phase 2 graphemes by strengthening the vital link between the written letter (grapheme) and its corresponding sound (phoneme) within a word.

How to use this resource

Learners match each letter (grapheme) card with its corresponding picture.

Designed to be simple and predictable, these matching cards are ideal for individuals or groups to work on by themselves, or for an adult to use when providing extra support.

Who’s it for?

Designed for Early Years children learning Phase 2 phonics, Year 1 pupils requiring reinforcement and adaptable for older learners who need to revisit foundational sounds.

This activity set helps learners practise and reinforce all Phase 2 sounds.

To prevent learners from becoming overwhelmed, these sounds have been sorted into four groups. This makes it easier to target specific sounds for practice as needed.

Answers

Grapheme/picture answers are included in a clear format, enabling learners to check their own matches and work independently.

Resource Preparation

Print 'match cards' onto card (rather than paper) to improve durability. Cut to separate 'match cards' following dotted lines. x46 grapheme and picture cards are included (plus two spare in Set 4).
