This resource contains 4 PDF files.
Summary
This interactive resource encourages learners to sound out, read, and understand CVC ( '- e t' ) words by matching them to a corresponding illustration. Description
What’s included?
This download includes x4 A4, portrait (and x1 landscape) pdf sheets, which includes two answer/instruction sheets. Five sheets in total.
What’s it for?
This activity set enables learners to practise reading and writing CVC words mostly within Phase 2. Three sounds in this set (j, v and w) are from Phase 3.
This interactive activity helps learners develop reading and writing skills by encouraging them to sound out and read CVC words. Each word is paired with one specific illustration, even if the word has other meanings. When faced with a new word, learners should identify the correct word/picture match through a process of elimination and then record it in writing.
Who’s it for?
This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in year one as well as older students needing additional learning support.
Resource Details
The layout includes one ‘CVC wheel’ to make with easy to follow instructions. Once the wheel is assembled and turned (in either direction) different initial letters are revealed to make x9 _et CVC words.
There is a clear space for learners to write their name at the base of each sheet (left side). The CVC phonics wheel can be reused time and again.
Orange (Set 2 - e)
The words/pictures included use sounds from Phases 2 and 3. Phase 3 sounds included are j, v and w.
The words/pictures included are as follows:
- bet
- get
- jet
- met
- net
- pet
- set
- vet
- wet
Differentiation
The activity includes two differentiated sheets to cater for varying learner abilities. The level of difficulty is clearly indicated by a coloured icon on the lower right side of each sheet.
Easier Level (Green Icon):
- This sheet only has the initial sound missing. Learners write the starting letter on the line provided to complete the CVC word.
More Challenging Level (Red Icon):
- This sheet is more challenging as all letters are missing. Learners must sound out and write the entire three-letter CVC word on the lines provided.
Suggestion
It is recommended to use card over paper (for the phonics wheel), as its greater robustness ensures the phonics wheel is easy for learners to rotate and increases the resource's lifespan. Lamination is ideal for enhanced durability.
