Summary
This set of weather symbols has been designed to display on windows in any home/learning environment to inspire young learners and promote and interest in the different types of weather which can change moment to moment through the day and seasons. The weather symbols can be positioned as you choose (ideally a sunny spot!) and look beautiful when the sun shines through them, casting weather symbol shapes onto different surfaces depending on the sun's (changing) position.

This pdf download includes x7 landscape orientation sheets featuring x10 different weather symbols with step by step instructions to create colourful acetate/cellophane and tissue weather symbols for (window) display which can be used as an interactive daily weather chart.
What’s it for?
These weather symbols are designed to create a sense of awe and wonder as well as promoting an interest in the different types of weather as it changes moment to moment through the day and seasons. When the sun shines through them, they cast beautiful coloured shapes onto the surfaces around them. As the sun moves, the shapes will shift and change.
Learning Opportunities
This set provides a great way to help learners:
- Identify and name each of the ten types of weather.
- Explore their properties by observing and identifying changes in the weather learners vocabulary and use of language will expand and develop.
- Notice the differences between different types of weather and how at times more than one type of weather can be combined.
Two word labels
Are included to display with the set, however these are not designed to be double-sided (as the weather symbols all are).
- a 'Weather!' label this can create a main 'title' for the full set.
- a 'What is the weather today?' label prompting and encouraging learners to observe and describe what is happening.
Who’s it for?
This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students who would enjoy this interactive resource and appreciate the pops of colour created through the various shapes when the sun comes out!

Suggestions
For best results, we recommend making these letters from white card, except page 7 which paper is fine for.
You will also need a set of coloured acetate or cellophane sheets as well as some tissue paper, which are inexpensive and can be found online.
