Cookies, briefly
A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to keep. Our login and session cookies, which keep you signed in, and security cookies, which protect our forms, are essential. They do not depend on your optional cookie choice. Google Analytics (GA4) cookies help us understand how the site is used. They are optional and only run if you accept them. You can reject them and still use the site. Google reCAPTCHA on protected forms is a separate third-party service, not controlled by the analytics choice.
The cookies we set
| Cookie | What it is for | Lasts | Necessary? |
|---|---|---|---|
sessionid |
Keeps you signed in as you move between pages. | 2 weeks | Yes |
csrftoken |
Protects forms — signup, login, basket — against being submitted by another site. | 1 year | Yes |
cookie_consent |
Remembers whether you accepted or rejected analytics, so we do not ask on every page. | 6 months | Yes — it stores the choice you made |
_ga, _ga_JLK7ZKBFPC |
Google Analytics (GA4): counts visits and shows which pages and printables are used, so we know what to make more of. | Google's default can be up to 2 years; actual account settings require verification | No — only after you accept |
Changing your mind
Choose "Cookie settings" in the footer to make the choice again; if you reject analytics, the Google cookies are cleared from your browser along with the setting. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser's own settings, and browse the site perfectly well without the optional ones.
Third-party services
Fonts and icons are served locally. Protected forms also load Google reCAPTCHA
for abuse prevention, independently of optional Google Analytics. Google may
receive IP address, device/browser and interaction information and use cookies
such as _GRECAPTCHA. The exact cookies and lifetimes depend on the
service and require verification; this table is not a complete inventory of
Google's cookies. Rejecting analytics does not disable reCAPTCHA. See Google's
Privacy Policy and
Terms of Service.
