Resource details
This downloadable resource provides four differentiated sets of handwriting practice sheets covering all Phase 2 phonics sounds as ordered in the Letters and Sounds programme. Four sets included are:
-
Set 1: s, a, t, p, i, n
-
Set 2: m, d, g, o, c, k
-
Set 3: ck, e, b, r, u, h
-
Set 4: f, ff, l, ll, ss
Designed to be written on directly, each sheet features clear 'starting dots' to guide pencil placement and ensure correct letter formation. The systematic progression allows you to easily match the level of support to your learners' needs.
Progressive Practice Levels (Sheets 1–4)
The four included sheets (pages) are numbered 1 to 4 (from easiest to hardest), representing an increasing level of difficulty and independence for the learner.
-
Page 1 (Maximum Support): Learners trace one row of each letter using dotted line guides and starting dots.
-
Page 2 (Moderate Support): Practice extends to two rows. The first row uses dotted line guides, and the second row requires tracing over the pale grey letter shapes without the starting dot guide.
-
Page 3 (Transition to Independent Writing): Practice extends to two rows. The first row uses dotted line guides. The second row starts with letter tracing, followed by a blank space for independent letter formation.
-
Page 4 (Independent Writing): Practice extends to two rows. The first row uses dotted line guides. The second row is a fully blank line for learners to practice writing each sound without any visual scaffolding.
