This download includes x3 A4 landscape orientation sheets in a PDF format.
What’s it for?
This resource provides an engaging, hands-on learning experience for young learners to cut and match numerals and number names from one to ten and/or twenty. In this resource the numerals and number names are arranged in random order - making this more challenging than the other similar resource available, see: Posting letters! Number names to 10/20 - in order
This resource helps learners:
- Recognise numerals
- Recognise number name words
- Match numerals and number names to 10 and 20
- Improve fine motor skills (through cutting)
Who’s it for?
This resource has been designed for Early Years children/pupils in Year 1 who are learning to recognise and read number names up to twenty. It's also a helpful tool for Year 2 students, or older learners, who need to practice reading/spelling these words.
How to Use This Activity
First, learners write their name at the bottom of each sheet.
- Cut: Cut out the number name "postal letters" from Page 3 and keep them together (safe).
- Match: Look at the number name on each "postal letter" and read it to match it with the correct numeral on a house door.
- Stick: Once the matches are correct, glue the "postal letter" in the "garden" area under the numbered door. Learners can secure them with glue right away or wait until all matches are complete.
Differentiation
- For more advanced learners: Have them complete both Page 1 and Page 2, matching all number names up to twenty.
- For younger or less confident learners: Focus on Page 1, which only focuses on matching numbers up to ten.
Resource Details
-

-
Page 2 displays houses numbered from 1 to 20 (in random order).
-
Page 3 displays the postal letters to be cut out (at the top) - in random order. At the base of this page are the answers - to be kept safe (and out of sight!) until learners have completed the activity.
Spare (blank) postal letters are included incase any do become lost.
Suggestion
To avoid 'postal letters' getting lost provide learners with a paper plate/shallow plastic bowl to store them in.
For learners who find cutting challenging/frustrating pre-cut the postal letters for them so they can focus purely on the number task.
